The Metabolic Plate was created through my personal journey of trying to work out what foods supported my health and longevity.
I believe that your first and permanent home, whilst you are alive, is your body. With our modern day living, time and health are precious resources in our lives that often compete with each other. When we are time poor, we can easily reach for convenience foods that are processed and make poor choices when it comes to our health. As a working professional, I feel the same hurdles because a long, packed day leaves me with little room to try out time consuming and easy to fail recipes.
Living in the era of ever changing research and constantly changing diet trends, it is difficult to navigate the world of nutrition as the definition of "healthy" keeps changing, like a moving target. What is considered healthy today can end up being not healthy tomorrow creating more confusion. Your complete picture of health can be viewed through the lens of your metabolic health as it is responsible to regulate your sleep, appetite, hormones, weight and energy levels. Unless you optimise your metabolic health it is not possible to truly be healthy.
Your metabolism is unique. Your favourite “healthy” foods may be holding you back from feeling your best. The Metabolic Plate aims to be a source of inspiration for recipe ideas for people who want to optimise their blood sugar while also enjoying the full spectrum of foods available to us. It is about learning how to mix and match our foods so that our plate is blood sugar friendly, visually appealing and delicious.
It is about having minimal blood sugar spikes and saving those big spikes for special and fun occasions instead of every meal. Through the use of continuous glucose monitoring technology (CGM), we can engineer our plates so we can determine which foods help our body function at its best. Seeing how the foods we eat affect our critical body systems in real-time is a powerful way to think about nutrition. It is not about being perfect but creating balance and making informed decisions about our food.
As a lover of food, I hope you find my recipes and learnings to be a valuable resource in your journey for supporting your metabolic health.
